These days, we’re all spending more time at home and (in an attempt to escape whatever room is passing for an office) in the garden. With all that in mind, it’s no surprise that BBQs (and hot tubs!) are more popular than ever.
Here at Bright & Shine Stoves, we’re obsessed with all things BBQ – and we don’t think there’s a better grill on the market than the Kamado Joe. Firing up the grill, possibly with a glass of something nice in hand, is the perfect escape from the stresses and strains of the world at the moment.
But why choose a Kamado Joe grill over any other BBQ? Well, pardon the pun, but if you think the Kamado is just another BBQ, you don’t know Joe…
What is a Kamado grill?
The basic design of a Kamado grill hasn’t changed much in the past 3,000 years – all Kamados are still an egg-shaped stove. One of the best features of a Kamado is that they are hugely versatile. They can act as a grill, a smoker, a convection oven or even a pizza oven. There are very few limitations when it comes to cooking on a Kamado grill and if you add in an automatic temperature controller then they’re one of the easiest outdoor ovens to cook on.
Most Kamado grills nowadays are made from high quality ceramics, refractory materials or steel. The highly insulative properties of these materials allow them to absorb and store a lot of heat, which makes them ideal for outdoor cooking at any ambient temperature. The higher end models – like the Kamado Joe range – are generally ceramic.

Why Kamado Joe?
We’ve all been there: in the middle of something you love doing, only to be frustrated by the quality of a tool. Maybe it doesn’t break. But it doesn’t work like it could. That was Founded just outside Bobby Brennan and Kerry Coker’s realisation about grilling. They loved it. They did it all the time. But weekend after weekend, they’d find themselves disappointed by their grills and tools.
They knew there was a better way—which is what inspired them to design and develop a better grill. Kamado Joe isn’t just a line of products; it’s what happens when two guys who love to grill get serious about creating the world’s best ceramic cooker. The result is better quality, smarter features, and more innovative accessories than any other grill. That’s the story of Kamado Joe.

Build Quality
Crafted to perform better and last longer, the Kamado Joe range features a very thick walled, heat-resistant ceramic shell that retains heat incredibly well for very even cooking. Ceramic is also great for charcoal efficiency – you don’t need as much charcoal to reach the same temperatures and it will burn longer in a ceramic grill. Also, there is usually a higher moisture retention when cooking on a ceramic Kamado. With a little practice you’ll generally be able to get juicer meat from a ceramic shell.

Accessories
They’re also constantly innovating in terms of accessories and design. The Kamado Joe Classic III comes with the patented Sloroller hyperbolic smoke chamber and the three-tier Divide & Conquer flexible cooking system. The Sloroller uses patented, Harvard science to turn your Kamado into a smoker by distributing smoke and heat in rolling, recirculating waves. This both enhances the smoky flavour and reduces hotspots.
The Divide & Conquer flexible cooking system uses a half-moon heat deflector to partially block off heat, coupled with multi-level tiered grates to both increases your cooking area and to cook food at different temperatures.
Other standout accessories include the JoeTisserie, a durable cast aluminium rotisserie that sits inside grills body, and the cast-iron Dutch oven that turns your kamado into a chili making machine. Basically, however you want to use your Kamado Joe, chances are there’s a perfect accessory to make it happen. BBQ pizza anyone?
